In keeping with tradition, this year the Fondazione Lonati is once again supporting AIRC, the Italian Association for Cancer Research, which has been in the front line since 1965 in the study, prevention and treatment of cancer, funding research projects, training scholarships for young researchers, and public awareness programmes to raise awareness of the progress made in the research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
For many years now, the Lonati Foundation has been contributing recurrent donations to AIRC's activities and initiatives. Every day, an average of 1,000 people in Italy are diagnosed with cancer, over 3,600,000 people (5.6% of the population) have been diagnosed with cancer, 63% of women and 54% of men are alive five years after diagnosis.
The knowledge that only scientific research can open doors that seem barred or that we cannot even imagine exist is the basis of AIRC's commitment to patients.
